On March 1 - 2, 2011, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability (OE), in coordination with the North Carolina State Energy Office and the City of Raleigh, hosted the first of four regional energy assurance exercises. The South Regional Exercise was held in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Raleigh Convention Center. This exercise involved southern States and cities who received Energy Assurance grants from DOE, along with participants from industry, non-profits, Federal, State, and local agencies.
Energy scenarios addressed infrastructure interdependencies, as well as communication, collaboration, and policy responses. Participants were able to attend several mini-workshops held during the morning of the first day, highlighting energy assurance topics relevant to the energy scenarios. The Southern regional exercise satisfies State and local grant recipients’ interstate exercise requirements and help participants to evaluate their energy emergency preparedness.
