2011 Regional Exercises

State and Local Energy Assurance Exercise Meetings

The U.S. Department of Energy, under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, provided grants to 48 States and 43 Local communities for Energy Assurance Planning. These State and Local Energy Assurance Planning funds will allow State and local governments to hire and train staff and expand their capabilities to plan and respond to a variety of energy emergencies such as blackouts, hurricanes, floods, ice storms, or possible terrorist attacks.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability (OE) and the National Association of State Energy Offices (NASEO) will host four regional exercises across the country designed to test these increased capabilities. The regional exercises are designed for the State and Local Energy Assurance grantees and will satisfy the grant requirements for the interstate exercise. Each regional exercise will be held in conjunction with an educational workshop designed to help participants with specific topics related to energy assurance planning. Participants from the federal government, non-profits, and the private sector will also be invited to attend.
